How to generate the seabed mesh around a pipe?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

I've been trying to mesh my rectangular seabed with an embedded (subtracted) circular pipe using Ansys 12. Attached pdf file shows what I really want. I have subdivided the total area into rectangles and couldn't get them meshed with Quad and the vicinity of the pipe with isoparametric elements. Can you help?

Thanks

Maybe you could try the O-grid.

Wrong Mesher?

Your image shows a mesh much more like the Hexa mesher would produce...

If you want to produce something similar with quad, you can try increasing the mapping (Under global Mesh Params for the Patch Dependent (Conforming) Quad. However, I am guessing that your model will be most easily meshed with ICEM CFD Hexa...

I did it very quickly and easily in ICEM CFD Hexa...

In Hexa, this is very simple to do. Here it is only 2D, but you get the idea. I simply split out the pipe and then created an ogrid in the central block... Then I split the Ogrid twice to capture the inside and outside of the pipe wall. Then I setup my mesh sizes and smoothed.

3 minutes total.

I can send you the files if you like.

And then I smoothed it...

Here is the zoomed out... I made the box 400 X 600...
