Ansys ICEM's bugs list. Methods of resolving the problems
 
I have faced with unavoidable bug in ICEM. Can anyone tell me why vertex coloured blue (i.e. disassociated from geometry) is marked with char 's' (i.e. associated with surface). I disassociated the vertex, connected to it edges and faces, but nothing happened.

Is it connected to a surface projected surface? How about the face its next to? Is that Associated with a surface?

it's not easy to perceive a colour in the picture, but the vertex enclosed with red line is blue. And it is marked with char 's'. As you can see nodes of the face that enclosed with yellow line is dropped to a surface. The vertex, internal faces and edges are disassociated.

File surgery
 
I have not seen this issue for years, but I do recall having it once long long ago. Are you using an old version, like maybe 5.1? Since I can't even recall the last time I saw this, I think it is fixed. If you want to send me the file, I will test it with the latest Beta...

Anyway, the way I ended up fixing it last time involved surgery on the blocking file itself...

Change the display so you see the node number instead of the projection type...

Note down that node number as well as a few others, such as one that is curve or point projected and maybe one that is interior projected...

It is the end of a holiday here, so I am not int a working frame of mind or I would look these up for you, but you can get more on the blocking format here...

Find the line that talks about that vertex (search for the number)... Somewhere in the line you will find the association type... it is probably coded with a 0, 1, 2, or 3. I just forget which way it goes, perhaps 0 is point projected, 1 is curve associated, 2 is surface associated and 3 is not associated... This is why you should check the other ones that you noted down...

Anyway, if you just use a text editor (such as textpad or ml.exe) and change the 2 to a 3, then save the file and all should be fixed (next time you load the file)...

Simon, thank you. I'll try to take your advice.
Another question. Is there in ICEM option for smoothing only desired blocks and only in desired destinations? I need to smooth some blocks in the (i,j)-plane, not in k-direction. I've played with "multiblock" smoothing, but it take me nowhere.
I use ICEM v12.0.

What version are you using? 12.0 and 12.1 has a somewhat automated Multiblock DEZ (Data Entry Zone). First it asks you to select the blocks to be smoothed and then it asks you to select the direction... Look on the screen, one of your selected blocks will have the "i, j, k" arrows in its corner. Click on the "k" vector and it will smooth in "i" and "j" then interpolate in "k" (plane smoother style). Other options on the form allow you to freeze faces, fix first layer height, etc.
