Virtual Topology and "Project to underlying geometry"

Hi all.:)

I am creating a mesh using sweep method. Now I am trying to combine some faces using virtual topology in order to inflate the near wall region. (like tutorial 6.2 Thin model Sweep).

However I am receiving an error message saying "cannot create virtual face: selected faces must belong to the same shell". What does this mean and how can i solve this?

Another question is where is the option "Project to underlying geometry" in the version 12.1? I am trying to find it but I am not being succeed.

Many thanks
Regards.
