Received exception: Disk full or disk related problem

I am getting the above error whenever a mesh I try to create reaches around 21 million cells. As long as I have quite a lot of free space in my hard drive, I understand that "disk full" is not the case. Can anyone please explain what is the basis of this problem with huge meshes and if there is anything to counter it?

Thanks.

Hmm I'm just guessing: have you chosen a filesystem like FAT for your harddrive, that does not support files bigger than 2Gb?

Johannes

Thanks for the reply Johannes. Actually, no. I have an ext3 filesystem on linux.

What Mesher?

What Mesher are you using?

Are you on 64 bit Linux? How much RAM?

I am using gambit. It is a cylindrical 3D mesh. Square inside the circle on the bases of the cylinder and extension from the 4 angles to the arcs that form the circle. All elements of the mesh are map. I have 24 Gbytes of RAM on a linux 64.
