merging two faces without losing mesh

Hi, whenever i merge two faces adjacent to each other which are already meshed, i lose the mesh upon merging. How do i avoid that?

Firstly, I am making them as two separate faces before meshing to get a better mesh. But when i merge them (after meshing) , I lose the mesh !

I need to merge them before sweeping into a volume cause im getting errors in volume after sweeping!

Thanks

I believe you cannot escape to it.
What is the problem with sweeping volumes?
