Hi guys,

I am trying to generate the mesh for my turbine simulation. It's a very simple model with an annulus to represent the flow passage and a NACA0020 blade profile.

I am not sure how to go about creating my hexa mesh around the blade. I know that I will need to use a C-grid type approach around the blade but am not sure how to deal with the extremely small tip clearance volume?

I have looked at other examples on this forum but am still stumped, I also tried to find the "Stator" tutorial that has been mentioned but cannot find it anywhere on the net.

Please help where possible.

Thanks,
Tim.

hello,

if you dont have much space to create a c topology, you can extend the o grid to the walls bu selecting the adgacent wall faces while creating the ogrid.

Default Pretend your way to a simpler topology.

jeevankumarb is on the right track... don't try to wrap the ogrid around the tip of the blade.

Instead...

Pretend there is no gap, pretend the blade goes right up to the shroud... Some people even project a copy of the tip curves onto the shroud to make blocking a little easier. Then block it without the tip gap.

Then take a second step and split along the blade at the blade tip.

Put the material in the gap region into the fluid part and the material in the blade into the solid part...
