Hello!!

I'm working on the meshing of an S-Duct. I have to make the mesh with ICEM HEXA in order to use 3D multiblock volume mesher. So once I have the geometry I have made these steps:

1- I've crated 6 block 2D on the surface in order to analize better the boundary layer.
2- I've translated blocks to get 3D blocks an after do the extrusion using a curve.
3- Once I have blocks along the whole duct I proceed to make the mesh.

First, I'm not sure if this is the way to get good blocks. Second, the problem is that, my pre-mesh look like what I'm really looking for, but after when I made the mesh it looks different!
Another question is could I transform my pre-mesh in multiblock and use that in the solver??
I put the file of the project and the blocks.
I hope someone could help me.

Hello,

I would do this problem using the half of o-grid (should be called c-grid I think). This would allow you to increase the mesh quality.

Normally, pre-mesh should not differ from mesh you are doing from it. So, if you are doing for example right click on pre-mesh and Convert to unstructured mesh, you will have the .uns file with a same mesh like in a pre-mesh.

Curvature of a structure is not so serious. So maybe you could do one 3d block, split it several times along the duct to follow curvature and then make a c-grid.

Your block' edge does not connected to the inlet bottom curve - is it like it should be?

Thank you so much!

I've forgotten another important thing, and that answer to your last question, the mesh should be closed, but the problem is that the entry area and the exit area don't have the same form, so I can't atach the mesh to the exit area. Do you know how can I do that???

I'm gona try what you told me about doing one block, split and after the c-grid. I'll tell you if my quality improve!!!

you can make something like this. I have no imagination about the flow type and other conditions. So, just made a draft of blocking.
