Hello,
I am new to the whole CFD world and am working on some test cases supplied by an organization. I have been supplied with an IGES model as well as some grid files with the .in file extension. I have also been supplied with .p3d file that is a pointmatch? Either way, I cannot get the full geometry to load in FLUENT but it will load in GAMBIT. What would be causing this. It seems it is easier to mesh in FLUENT so I would like to be able to do that. Also how can I import mesh's in FLUENT and what do .p3d and .in files do?

Thanks in advance.

I dont know who told you that Fluent is easier for meshing, as it is not a software for meshing. It only reads mesh files (i.e. if you only import an IGES file it won't display anything as it is empty for Fluent).
Therefore you have to create the mesh before importing it into Fluent. You can do that with Gambit (and then file -- export --mesh) or within Workbench (design Modeller and Ansys Meshing).
If you are new to the CFD world, maybe the 1st step would be to do some tutorials for beginners.

Good luck,

Marion.

PS: No idea what to do with your .in and .p3d files.

gambit has no unit itself.it means don't care about the units in gambit.e.g if you want to create a rectangular 10*20 mm in gambit just create 10*20 (no unit) and then in fluent do this:
grid...scale...grid was created in(mm)...scale(at the bottom)
