Help with sectioning mesh

Hi,

I'm trying to generate a 2D mesh exactly like the one pictured, by joining 4 different geometries together so that the mesh is more detailed in certain regions. The pictured mesh was created using GAMBIT, but I'm limited to using ANSYS workbench to generate the mesh, and we don't have access to ICEM.

I was wondering how to go about this, e.g. should I create each geometry separately and join them with the mesher, or should I join each part together at the geometry stage?

use dm
 
for your 2d mesh, use design modeler to create a series of multibody parts for you geometric configuration, then utilize mapped mesh controls and 2d inflation to get the desired mesh

thanks for the reply!

I'm still unsure about the process though, DM won't let me connect edges or create joints between my 3D parts. I tried redefining the coordinates of each part so that they would fit in the right places but DM then automatically merges the parts together into single bodies, which I assume is wrong.

Also what is 2D inflation? Is that inflation applied only to the face of a body rather than the whole 3D body? Mapped face meshing works fine except I can't get the smooth circle of inflation out from the circles which are seen in the original picture I attached, I'm only getting very gradual inflation shown in the attachment below no matter what mesh sizing parameters I change.

Apologies for my ignorance, I'm completely new to CFD!

u don't have any option in ansys mesher to split or join,u have to do it in DM.
u need to create a enclosed loop to make a surface out of it then u have a option to split it however u want.

after creating a plane surface split it with 2d lines using a command in EXTRUDE-IMPRINT FACES.This command will splits it where ever u want but ensure the 2d lines r not intersecting each other.

Ojaysus,

If your parts are automatically joining in DM, you need to add as frozen...

Once in ANSYS Meshing, you can apply inflation by selecting the surface as the body and then selecting the edge for the inflation...
