gambit error limited!!!

Hii,
I would like to know does the mesh of GAMBIT is limited? because when i meshed the domain I get the folloming error :

ERROR: Unable to write 32505856 bytes of data to descriptor 8.

-Instead -1 bytes were written

mesh of volume contains 8000000 highly skwed elements

Thanks for your help

decompose your domain into subdomains (splits)

stage81 May 27, 2011 04:32

Can you show me how i can decompose my domain (brick 3D)?? thanks

show me your domain

stage81 May 27, 2011 05:08

My domain is a brick3D: [2cm, 1cm, 1cm], and i want to mesh this domain with an interval size of 0.005 along the x, y and z directions,

There is no mesh. It is only the volume decomposition.
I advice you to do it yourself, but I give you the journal file...
*********
volume create width 2 depth 1 height 1 brick
face cmove "face.3" multiple 1 offset 1 0 0
face cmove "face.1" multiple 1 offset 0 0 0.5
face cmove "face.2" multiple 1 offset 0 0.5 0
volume split "volume.1" faces "face.9" connected
volume split "volume.1" faces "face.8" connected keeptool
volume split "volume.2" faces "face.8" connected
volume split "volume.3" faces "face.7" connected keeptool
volume split "volume.1" faces "face.7" connected keeptool
volume split "volume.2" faces "face.7" connected keeptool
volume split "volume.4" faces "face.7" connected

stage81 May 27, 2011 08:53

Ok thanks, i'll test this journal file

Also, are you 32 bit or 64 bit...

You are not going to get 32 million cells out of 32 bit Gambit...

(the 32 million was just a coincidence... nothing to do with 32 bit... I don't think you could get 15 million cells out of 32 bit gambit...)

stage81 May 30, 2011 03:48

I m 32 bit not 64

I managed to get a 10 million cells mesh on 32 bit version.
No problem untill I wanted to export the mesh.
That's the problem..
I had to switch on linux64 bit partition with 8GB Ram. Then problem has been fixed

stage81 June 1, 2011 09:54

I also get the problem when I export the mesh .. Luckily for you :) I have note Linux 64! i have the 32bits (windows and linux)

Thanks for information MAX

related problem

Hello,

I use 64 bit linux version of Gambit 2.3.16.
I manage to create a big mesh, say, more than 12-13 mln, but the error occurs when I try to convert it to .neu. And I use this format further with some in-house code.

After completing meshing it starts to write the Neutral file, for example:

...
"Writing 14046777nodes, 13600000 elements, 1 group and 0 bc sets to GAMBIT Neutral file test_new.neu.
ERROR: Error writing to file at line 38008498
/ Closing readfile ..." etc

In the next message I attach a .jou file. You can run it from the command line as follows
gambit -inp name.jou
although I use alias:
alias gambit='FLUENT_ARCH=lnx86 gambit -x11'

I would be happy to any help since I fill uncomfortable to switch to another meshing tool.

Thank you for help.

Rustam

It is not very clean though

No problem for me to export your *.neu file
It generates a 2.3GB file

PS: I generates it from GUI >> File/Run Journal...

Thanks for spending your time, -mAx-.

Than i have another question. Where did you download your gambit? is it legal?:)
Because I use a cracked one. Which version do you have?

Thanks again
Rustam

-mAx- October 10, 2012 01:06

I have legal license (2.4.6)

Hello All,

I want to do analysis of heat transfer from water flowing through pipes submerged inside concrete. I am modelling in GAMBIT and wish to analyse it on Ansys FLUENT.

Can anybody help me out, how to model and simulate?

Does any tutorials exist?
