Bladegen w/o turbogrid
 
Hello

I'm very beginner to Ansys so please correct me if I'm wrong in my thinking.

I'm doing my MSc thesis about flow through the axial fan simulation - rotor+stator.
I've done geometry in Bladegen and just realized that I will need Turbogrid which I don't have. I'm looking for solution of this situation. As I see Bladegen generates geometry as edges so I can't put it directly into CFX-mesh. I'm trying to make the solid in CATIA but the main problem is that I have to do many different geometries and compare them so I want it to be as easy and quick as possible.
My questions are:

1) can I avoid Turbogrid in this process and mesh it in CFX-mesh? I've heard that it is very useful but maybe not nessessery

2) how can I easyly make mesh on a Bladegen model to use it in simulation? (without Turbogrid)

Hi Biskvito,

Right-click the 'Blade Design' cell under the 'BladeGen' system/box you created. You should see an option that says 'Create New Blade CFD Mesh'. That will automatically create a 3D CAD version of your BladeGen geometry in DesignModeler an generate the mesh inside ANSYS Meshing for you. That mesh will be good enough for early studies, but you should consider refining it for more advanced analysis afterwards.

Hey Bruno, thank you for your answer. You saved me much time. The solution was very obvious but it didn't work - a problem with license. After your replay I searched and found the solution:
In project tab manu I chose Tools/Options, in the tree select Licensing/License Management and in section Geometry Modeler set Current to Use Default and Default to ANSYS BladeModeler. (Ansys Workbench 11.0)

I have no idea what is all about with those all licenses in ANSYS :confused: but now it works :)

I have used both blade gen and turbo grid for simulating gas turbine blade. I believe you will not find any software better than turbo grid to mesh any kind of blade. You will definitely need this software if you want to get good results.

Yeah, sorry I omitted that part. It is important, but since the the BladeGen license also allow people to use DesignModeler, most people don't have both, so it normally isn't an issue.

And just to add something else, sometimes you also have to enable the BladeEditor add-on on the settings menu option on DM.

thanks, but I actually don't need very good results - it's just MSc thesis ;)

@brunoc - that's why I wrote the full answer for my question, maybe someone will have similar problem.

right now both BladeGen and DesignModeler are working without any complaints so I don't know in what situation it's a need to enable the BladeGen...
