Default Car geometry for 3d modelling

Hey guys, can anyone tell me how to proceed with creating the geometry in design modeler for fluent analysis for a car? The CAD file for the car is there. I'm relatively new to cfd and i'm using ANSYS 12.1. Any help would be appreciated.

Vikram, if you already have the CAD file just import it into DesignModeler.

I was referring to another problem. Actually the CAD model i had was a mixture of surfaces and solids. Because of that I couldnt even do a sew operation to make it a complete solid to subtract from my geometry. I had to make a separate car model for that. One last question though, I made the car model in 3DS max and not in solidworks, and every time i try to convert the poly model to NURBS model (to get the iges file) the program crashes. Is there anyway to import a patch model or poly model in ANSYS? Thanks for replying.

I'm not familiarized with 3DS Max, so I don't know what you can do to export your geometry. What is the 'poly model' you mentioned? Is it like an STL mesh file? If it is, you can import it to Workbench using the FE Modeler tool. Check the documentation to see how it works.

Yup, its like an STL mesh file( I'm not sure if it's exactly the same thing or not, although i'm pretty sure it is). I'll check out the FE Modeler tool. Thanks again.

hello friends,
I have a problem to get a name selection in ansys fluent, it cannot display a name selection in ansys fluent which I have already given a name selection in design modeler for analysis of car which is enclosed in box by means of enclosure

Fluent will only read NS present in Meshing. So be sure that the NS you created in DM are imported into Meshing before going to Fluent. Or just recreate them in Meshing.
