Free surface in Workbench

Dear all,
I have started to work witch Ansys Workbench since last week. Before that I was used to Gambit, but as Gambit doesn’t support 64bit, I was forced to switch. I have to simulate the (free surface) flow around a hull, but I couldn’t manage to find a good tutorial how to set up such a model in Workbench. Two main problems are: -What is the best way to create a Flow Volume? (to set up boundary conditions like Inlet/Outlet/(moving) walls) -In Gambit I used to “subtract” the hull from the flow Volume. How is that done in workbench? Is it simply done by defining the flow volume as fluid and the hull as solid? Most of all, a good tutorial would help me the best, but answering the questions could be a good start :-) Sincerely, Vincent M. |

You can use Design modeler to generate the geometry, and in Ansys Mesher you can generate the mesh.

Thx for your reply!
I already have a geometry, but I can't find the similar operation as "subtract" in Gambit. Now I have the hull in a box, but I'm not sure what the next step should be. |

You can find this operation in,
Create=>Boolean=>Subtract |

Hi all,
I’ve read some of the tutorials on creating volumes in Design Modeler. I have to do some research on the fluid around a hull. For this I want the mesh to be finer on the free surface. When I import the hull, I can use Enclosure for creating a box around the hull. But how can I make a second volume at the level of the free surface? Can I use Enclosure again to make a smaller box? Or should I sketch the contours of the different boxes and use the Boolean operations? Any help is appreciated! Sincerely, Vincent M. |
