Is there a trick to aligning edge/vertices?

Imported a 3D ProE drawing but only need to run a 2D simulation

The vertices of my edges are not co-planner and all need to be in the XY-plane, but i am having real trouble trying to get them there...

Does anyone have any advice to bringing all the edges to the same plane?

Import your 3d geometry in Gambit.
Then create a XY-plane (big surface), and split your volume with the plane (plane dimensions have to be greater than your volume).
Once split is successfull, delete one of both volumes. (lower geometry enabled).
Delete the other volume, but with lower geometry disabled.
Delete now all the surfaces (lower geometry enabled), except the surface you want to use for your computation
