Hi, I'm kind of new to ICEM as the meshing I've done before has been for 2D pipes in which case I used Gambit, or for FEA in which case I used Ansys Workbench.

I have an STL file which I have to generate a mesh for for part of my project but am not sure where to get started. The tutorials and other things I've read appear to be suggesting I use tetra method or octane but I have no idea how to make the stl file I have mesh as it appears to have a lot of gaps in it.

Is there anything I'm missing?

I've tried repairing the mesh but this doesn't seem to ass many more edges

Thanks very much

Yeah I had, though most of the steps appear not to work for my file, in particular the repairing surface geometry and the diagnostic topology. It seems to have quite a few gaps in it that don't like this method.

I'll try it again later though, but at the moment I'mmore stuck on how to set inlets and outlets so I'll try that too.

Thanks

If you can, please post a screen shot of your trouble spots...

Perhaps it will help us understand or perhaps we can tell you that your STL is just too terrible

It's likely that it is, though I was given it by a lecturer for me to carry out some testing, I'll try and get a screen shot tomorrow

Hi, sorry this so long, but this is what I've been given with no alteration

http://www.flickr.com/photos/7523180...n/photostream/

Essentially I want to create a plane along each of the blue lines at inlets and outlets to make these edges flat so they can be used as better inlets and outlets?

I know how to generate the mesh when this is done, just having a few issues witht his aspect

I think I've combatted part of the problem, by creating a local coordinate system (as my outlets were all at odd angles) and using this to create four points in a square around the inlets and outlets with points, then making a surface using them, and using the surface intersection tool to create a surface around where the new inlet/outlet will be
