Need of drawing Mesh for Bump tutorial
 
Hi I need the steps of drawing the mesh for flow over a Bump tutorial in CFX-Mesh or ICEM may somebody mentioned the steps to me?

can you post the coordinates of that geometry. I will help you with rest of the things in ICEM

Hi thanks for the respond forget the Bump I will give you my channel dimensions instead which I want to draw it as 2D and simulate it in CFX its length is 8 m and height is 0.1 m may you please draw its mesh to me?

so instead of bump, now you want mesh the simple rectangular channel?

Yes I want to simulate it as two phase flow problem using CFX as I know CFX not solve 2D problems some members in the forum suggested me to draw it as 3D mesh with extruding the third dimension I am really new with ICEM and do not know how to do that hope you help me with it?

Hi Simon unforunately I have nothing about it all what I can told you I want simulate a pipe as 2D problem the pipe length in x-direction is 8 meters and diameter in y-direction is 100 cm I prefer if you draw it by cfx-mesh in order i simulate it in CFX-Pr? about the boundary conditions as follows single inelt, single outlet, bottom wall and top wall you can add symmetry to the third dimesnion hope you now have clear idea about it?

Steps to create mesh and then importing into CFX:
Geometry
1. Draw four points
2. Draw four curves from these points.
3. Draw face from four curves

Blocking :
1. Initialize 2d planner blocking
2. Make vertex and edge association.
3. set edge mesh parameters
4. Check premesh

Mesh.
1. Right click on premesh and select option "convert into unstructured mesh"
2. Go to output panel and select Fluent as solver (Yes Fluent as solver!)
3. Set boundary conditions : in, out , wall 1 and wall2
3. Output mesh

CFX Pre
1. Open mesh and select type as Fluent (.msh and .cas)
2. You will notice that CFX has extruded mesh by one cell and making it 3d as CFX is 3d solver.
3. Define symmetry condition for these two faces
4. define other boundary conditions.

Hi Far thanks a lot for the files. I want to know did you draw this mesh by DesginModeler or ICEM? I failed to load the mesh neither with desginmodeler nor with turbogrid (which exist with CFX launcher)? may you mentioned me the steps for importing it in these programs?

Mesh was designed in ICEM.

Do not use design modeler and Turbogrid for these files. As Design Modeler is used to create the geometry and turbogrid is specialized tool to mesh the rotating machinery.

I have created geometry and mesh in ICEM. Double click on .prj file and it will open both.
After that I output the 2-d mesh in Fluent format (idea by Simon) and open it in CFX-Pre. CFX-Pre will automatically extrude the 2d mesh into 3d by adding the one cell thickness. Double click on .cfx file it will open file in CFX-Pre

Thanks a lot Far again for the answer. If you said that when you draw the mesh as 2D fluent mesh and open it in cfx-pre then it will be automatically extruded from 2d mesh into 3d? hence I need to ask if I draw the mesh in Gambit as 2D fluent mesh output file and then open it in cfx-pre is it will extruded into 3D too?

Hi Far how are you. I am try to set the problem setting reference to the mesh you sent me before couple of days ago. You said that I need to define symmetry condition for two faces of the geometry the problem I not see these two phases in your mesh file? In Bump tutorial they set the front and back boundaries into symmetry which they not defined in your mesh file? only four boundaries defined (inlet-outlet-top wall-bottom wall)?another thing why you select positive value for the z-direction and how you set it as (-0.001-0)?
