Wind pressure on Roof
 
Hello
I am planning to use the ANSYS CFD for my thesis. But I am first time in CFD field. Please suggest me which software will be good to analysis the wind pressure on roof.

Your suggestion and comments are welcome.

Explain exactly what you want to do? Your final objective (results required)? Geometry ? etc..

hi, thank you for the reply. Since, I am planning to analysis the wind pressure on different roof shape. Since, I dont have much idea about CFD model. What will be your suggestion in modelling the roof in CFD. Hear from you.

The two most popular are CFD and Fluent.

My personal favorite is Fluent as it's very powerful. But CFX isn't too far behind in terms of capability. I think CFX wins the popularity contest.

Some things to think about:

is the simulation a steady-state type problem or transient/unsteady?
incompressible / compressible
is the flow laminar / turbulent

for turbulent flows, it helps tremendously to know beforehand what others have used

Hello, thank you very much for the information. Regarding the simulation, since its windstorm on roof. It will be turbulent and also compressible, what i feel. Anyway suggestion in modelling the flow of windstorm for my roof damage by windstorm. Thanks

Suggest me one ANSYS software
 
Hello,
I am planning to use one ANSYS software for my research on the Windstorm damage on the Traditional Roof. The height of building is around 15m. I would like to analysis with following condition
1. With parapate wall in the attic(close air passage)
2. Porous attic(the clear height between roof floor and eve of roof is around 1.5m open area)
3. Partially porous(i.e small wall and also timber plank use to close the open between the eve of roof and roof floor level)

Please suggest me which ANSYS tool will be useful as per my condition.
