Icepack no convection

How to disable the convection solving in Icepak?
I know it is not the purpose, but I would like to compare with and without air convection of a full assembly.

I've found only a way to force no heat exchange on a surface by setting the factor area to ~0.001 of each faces of a block for instance.
(If it set at 0, it looks to not be taken in account. Same if the fixed heat of a surface is set at 0 W of a surface, it calculates anyway a heat exchange.)

thanks for your help,
Chris

Hi

Chris,
You can either switch off Convection by switching off the flow equation under Basic settings. similarly you can also do this by deactivating the cabinet object.

Let me know if any of these two options worked out..

:)

Dear Jupudi,
Thanks a lot for your feedback.
Indeed, I've found the option to disable the cabinet which works.
But I did not know about the flow equation which could be turn off.
Regards,
Chris

Hi

Hi Chris,
Glad to know that you've found Cabinet Off option (Cabinet Type: NONE).
Regarding the flow equation, you can check out the same window where you'll be switching on radiation, gravity and flow regime. Just un check the radio button adjacent to "Flow" .
Let me know if you face difficulty in finding it.

thanks,
Pramodh

Hi

Hello,

I'm analyzing electronic modules of a small satellite in Icepak, but I have few doubts on how I'm setting the simulations.

I tried switching off the cabinet to simulate the space environment, as suggested by Jupudi in this post, but I obtained very high temperatures (around 500°C, instead of an expected average of 100°C for the most powerful IC package).

Thus, I'm setting every side of the cabinet as Opening, enclosing the model of the satellite inside the cabinet with some space in between.

Moreover, I'm using a very rarefied air as default fluid, and I'm setting the Radiation Temperature to 20°C (while the Ambient Temperature varies along the simulated orbit), but I'm not sure that this is the right value I should use.

Sorry for the lengthy message, but it is important for me. A helpful reply would be much appreciated ;)

Thanks and Regards,
Alessandro
