Reggenzi, thanks for your help, but it didn't work here. The problem is still happening. I use Windows 7 Professional, 64 bits and Ansys 12.1. Thanks for your attention.

Hello!! I have the same problem. I start the Ansys 12.1, but when I start the DesignModeler or Mesh appears:

AnsysWBU.exe encountered a problem. A diagnostic file has been written:
..../AppData/Local/Temp/AnsysWBDumpFile.dmp

I did everything that you said in the post: update drivers, install the environment variable ANS_OLD_ATTACH...and I work without Ethernet and I don't know what do! please help me!

I installed Windows 7 64 bits and Ansys 12.1 64 bits, and I did that you said me...but the problem is the same... I worked in other PC and created the solid and the mesh and I opened them in my computer with my Ansys, when I could work with Fluent, but DesignModeler and Mesh didn't work....

I don't know what do

If using an ATI card:

disable 'Catalyst A.I.' and 'Geometry Instancing' and set the bar to all the way to the left for the rest of the 3D settings

or simply disable the card in device manager (which will help to identify if it's a graphics card problem in the first place)

Find the dumb file that is written by ANSYS. I disconnected from Internet and when I connected again it would give me the error "AnsysWBU.exe encountered a problem. A diagnostic file has been written:
..../AppData/Local/Temp/AnsysWBDumpFile.dmp" I have tried all the suggestions you guys are giving but nothing works. Rgds

Have you tried to install the System environment variable ANS_OLD_ATTACH = 1?

Advanced system settings / Environment variables

On variable value -> 1

OK & Save

Try this and good luck.

Hi Emreg,

What system are you using, i.e. OS and graphics card.

Have you tried switching off the graphics card to see if the problem still occurs?

Ansys Workbench Error: "ANSYSWBU.exe encountered a problem" (Design modeler and Mesh)

1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone!

Recently I recive a very strange / unusual problem / error, which, luckily, was solved (at the same time thanks to Google and people who also helped in the decision, giving recommendations). I want to help people and decided to describe the problem more completly.

It happened with Ansys 13 after install the update for Windows 7 x64 (see attached):

appear a fast window that say “ansyswbu.exe encountered problem”

Error:
ANSYSWBU.exe encountered a problem. A diagnostic file has been written: C:\...\Temp\AnsysWBDumpFile.dmp.

Of course, for those who have turned on System Restore in Control Panel \ All Control Panel Items \ System \ System Protection, you can simply select the restore point, recorded before "these" updates, and everything will work fine. But for those who have been turned off System Restore, the banal removing updates will not help, because Ansys files have been changed.

Also, you can simply restore the system, but why?
If there is more simple and quick solution.

Based on this forum, the below link and my own experience:
http://www.topix.com/forum/com/anss/...A6HBDAD9S2I/p2

1) Many people are advised to do the following:
Install the System environment variable ANS_OLD_ATTACH = 1

Advanced system settings / Environment variables
On System variables select -> New
On variable name -> ANS_OLD_ATTACH
On variable value -> 1

2) But sometimes that does not work (or does not help everyone):
This error is related to the fact that the operating system when you install the updates (for windows) changed the files belonging to the program Ansys, and located in the "My Documents" at:

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ansys;

To remove the error simply rename the folder "Ansys", eg, "_Ansys". As a result of this operation, the software Ansys, will recreate the directory at (C: \ Users \ UserName \ AppData \ Roaming \ Ansys) with default parameters and the error will disappear.

Also, Ansys, each time creating at "C: \ ... \ Temp \" multiple files / directories, they can also be safely removed, although their removal does not resolve problem, also typically, this folder is cleared after a system restart because it stores the temporary parameters (just the one person by the link above also recommends do it).

Quote of the man which also decided to the problem (from link above):

Hi, had exactly the same problem but used the following tip (though for V13)
"
Hey,we solved the problem (or to be more precise, ANSYS Support Team sorted me out). In my case, it turned out, the error occured due to overwriting of some files after my operating system installed a couple of updates. The updates triggered the script error that hindered mechanical in the workbench to open.How we solved it? We got rid of the old Workbench 12.0 profile and allowed it to reconstruct a new one. How: 1. renamed the '.ansys' directory in %temp% to 'ansys_old' 2. renamed the 'ansys12.0' and 'v120' directories in %appdata% directory to 'ansys12.0_old' and 'v120_old' resp. 3. restarted simulation in workbench 4. carry on simulations like nothing happenedHave a lot of fun!
"
-only diference was I reoved the 3 ansys realted folders that I saw in the "temp" folder. Seems like windows updates disrupt this folder
Best regards,
Maksim
