Chose a new computer to run ANSYS FLUENT

I just got a job and my boss whant to buy a computer that can run the FLUENT programe with out having to wait to much when anlysing. The budget is 1000$. I was think of buying a desktop not a laptop that probably give me a powerfull computer for a lower price. Can anyone point me to a website or discusion in this forum of this theam.

Whant to make a good impresion

Ur computational power required for simulation depends upon the complexity of the problem, number of cells in the analysis and "time you have" to get the results. We have Dell T7500 Quad Core machines. Explain more about the problem that you are solving so that better inputs can be provided.

I think a balance between RAM and CPU is good to be kept, yet I am not an expert to comment on that
but I have funny problem
I got 8 GB ram + 2.4 Dual core cpu but because of Graphic card!!! I cannot see the mesh and that force me to Downgrade! my Desktop (actually change) with lower RAM And CPU computer but better graphics!

RAM is very important. However, a 32 bit operating system has a limit of about 3 gb. You need a 64-bit OS to make use of the extra ram.

Intel i5 or i7 quad core are great processor. Phenom X4 is less expensive and does a very good job. Generally, it is better to spend money on faster cores, than to license additional cores.

For < $500 I purchased a Phenom X3 processor, 4gb ram, a motherboard, 1 terabyte hard disk, a cpu fan w/ thermal grease and a computer case. Put it all together in a 1/2 hour. With $1000 you could double the ram, and get an Intel i5 quad core processor.
