"problematic geometry"

1 Attachment(s)
Hi, I am wondering if anyone can help me as I am new to Ansys:

I have drawn a model of a propeller blade in solidworks and imported the geometry several times using Parasolid, ACIS and IGES files; I get the same problem with all files. I am trying to model the thrust and centrifugal forces acting on the blade, however there is a problem within the meshing stage...

- Upon trying to mesh the blade in Workbench I recieve a notice stating that there is problematic geometry as shown in the attatchment below:

Can someone help me resolve this issue?

Thank you very much!

This is what we call "dirty CAD" :D

You may have a small fault or discontinuity in your geometry, leading to this error message. Repair functions in Design Modeler may work, or else you must thoroughly go through the history tree of your geometry in your CAD-system, and look for small edges or faces missing in selections, etc..

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. I have just tried the repair functions in Design Modeler and it says there are no faults... I am going to review the CAD drawing but when I last checked nothing seemed to be wrong with it. The only thing I can think of is that the tip of the blade was formed via an extrusion from a sketch at the end of the mid section to a single point; as this was the only way i could get the desired shape... I guess I will have to play about with that and see what happens.

Are you able to spot the fault, if you go close enough with your zoom in DM? Typically, you will see a small slit or something like that.

Did you solve your problem? Because from what I can read in your picture (allways read the small print ;)), the problem is with the settings of the mesher, not necissarily a "dirty CAD". If you didnt solve it, try using an automatic method with advanced sizing function for curvature. Might work :).
