Hey guys,
I am working on my final year project. I am doing simulations of a 2stroke diesel engine. I have done the geometry and run the simulation but I have not gotten satisfactory contours and vectors in CFD-POST.
I have tried cutting across the geometry with a line as suggested in the online tutorial without success(its not well illustrated in the tutorial). I have tried doing it using a plane but it does not really show what is going on in the cylinder properly. I need to cut through the geometry in different cross-sections. I would attach what is in the tutorial and my own work.
Any suggestions on how I should go about this would be welcome. Thanks
If you have access to tutorial ; I mean page 6 and 7 http://www1.ansys.com/customer/conte...FDPost_DOC.pdf

you need to make section planes. >> insert >plane
then >insert>contour or > insert >vector.
1. define a point at center of cylinder and either on top of dome or bottom of the cylinder. -- you probably had one created already when you were meshing or setup the model. get the exact cooridinates to use for later steps.
>> i prefer getting the exact cooridinate from ICEM or whatever mesher or pre-processor
2. create section slices through your point and have it pass through your valves. you can do this by "insert plane", then choose that point you made and make a normal to that plane. in this case, try [0 0 1]. change the values of this vector until it passes through. OR, pick three points on screen, after selecting that as option. (plane 1)
3. now "insert contour" or "insert vector". pick whatever variables you wish to plot- velocity, pressure, mass fraction of air/gas/fuel/ etc. then for location pick "plane 1" which you created.
4. uncheck plane 1 box on tree so that it doesn't show with the plot.
