Modelling the Wind Resource in ANSYS

Hi guys, I am completely new to CFD.

I have acquired the ANSYS packages CFX, FLUENT, Mechanical, STRUCTURAL etc.

I am currently undertaking research into modelling the offshore wind resource and will be taking into account surface roughness, atm. stability etc.

It has come to my attention that there is also a package called Windmodeller also supplied by ANSYS.

I am just wondering does anybody know whether I will require this package with what I aim to do

Thanks in advance

for modelling

for modelling you required any profile generator. if u r having profile u can do it with fluent

Caoimhin,

It really depends on the complexity of the problem and the users experience with CFD. Windmodeller is a frontend to ANSYS CFX which is designed for new CFD users in wind farm simulation area. It can do quite a lot terrain data-mesh-solve-report with a easy GUI. The same stuff can be done with out windmodeller but might be not quite straight forward and needs experience.

how to get the windmodeller?

Hi, guys. Would you tell me how to get the windmodeller? thanks in advance

use fluent

i have decent experience in calculating the lift and drag coefficients which are significant in selection of airfoils for VAWTs. first you plot the airfoil in the workbench, then draw a bigger box(its surroundings). using boolean operations remove the airfoil. and using fluent you can analyse it. i chose 2d because it was faster and easier
