Hey,
I am interested in modelling air flow over a specific terrain by uploading a .txt file into ANSYS workbench (containing Eastings, Northings and elevation data). I have found a sample terrain file loaded into ANSYS which contains two additional numbers in column A1 and B1 respectively... My best guess is that they represent the number of splines?! ![]() Does anyone know what these numbers represent? Thanks, |

Did you find out? I'm trying to model water flow over an irregular bathymetry, but I do not know how to import my bathymetry file to ANSYS in order to mesh the domain. I heard we need to convert our .xyz file (point cloud) into a surface that could be imported to ANSYS...
If you find out how to do it, please, share how!! Thanks |

Oh cool. I had a go with .xyz files, not successful so far. I managed to upload points into ICEM from a .txt file, but this won't help as you would need to manually create surfaces from there on...
Will post my solution as soon as I find out! Please share if you have any success yourself! |

I managed to do it using Gambit2.4.6. Using the Create Real Face From Vertex Rows (Geometry > Face > Vertex Rows) command allows you to create a four-sided face by specifying a series of vertex rows that define the surface of the face: 1 - create a .xyz file vertices in an ordered sequence that represents the position of each vertex in a sequential series of rows. 2 - import points to Gambit, File > Import > Vertex data 3 - Create a Face, Geometry > Face > Vertex Rows Good luck! |

Hi Egge24,
Thank you for your advice! Unfortunately I don't have access to ANSYS very much at the moment, but I will try out Gambit as soon as I can. I have been watching a tutorial from the ANSYS website, where a terrain file is imported into ICEM as .xyz file, however I just cannot figure out what the two numbers in the first row represent and how to determine them. I have included a screen-shot of the file as shown in the video. Maybe you know?! Or someone else. |

The two numbers of the first line represent the number of point for each curve, and the number of curves for each surface. See pg. 60 from http://www1.ansys.com/customer/conte...fd/icmhelp.pdf |

Hi guys, I am also trying to import a 3D terrain into ANSYS, I will be using CFX, I have a text file of x,y and z co-ordinates. I was just wondering is there any updates on how to imprt this and create a surface?

Thank you. While I understand what these numbers mean now, I do not know how I would know what values to enter for my model...
Nonetheless I have been able to upload my terrain as STL file, from which I could then generate a volume mesh in ICEM.
