Revit and Autodesk Simulation CFD
 

Hi,
i cannot get any of the Revit 2013 models transferred into the Autodesk Simulation CFD 2013. I am using Launch Active Model link. Some models transfer with a very limited success, say half of the geometry is missing or i get an error.
I am not a Revit user but i assume there are a number of things that need to be done on the Revit model?
Is there a help document addressing this topic? Or maybe someone has a good advice?

Regardless of the CAD package, it really depends on what was modeled and how well it was modeled that really impacts whether or not the model is ready for simulation. That being said, Revit is designed for BIM, and again depending on who was running it and what they modeled, it may leave gaps, interferences or other details, that while fine at the BIM scale, are undesirable for simulation.

The first requirement is to understand what the CAD geometry needs to look like to be ideal for simulation and enable creation of fluid volumes and application of boundary conditions, materials, etc.

You can then evaluate the present state of the CAD and strategize what needs added, modified or deleted to get to that ideal state for simulation.

An intermediate step to consider is Autodesk Fusion, which is bundled with SimCFD. Import the Revit model into Fusion and then use the tools there to fix it up.

In some cases, again depending on the starting point, the path of least resistance may be to remodel the simulation domain from the ground up in Fusion, Inventor or the CAD product of your choice.
