Rotating diverging flow, validation #2

Posted March 20, 2014 at 06:38 by skeptik (CFD notes)

Following previous post about SRFSimpleFoam, i conclude that it's not perfect solver for simulations

Also i have had many problems with stability and convergence. Not in this simple case but in case of rotating blade.

Rotating diverging flow, validation

Posted March 19, 2014 at 06:29 by skeptik (CFD notes)

I've found interesting article about experimental investigation of a rotating diverging flow.

http://www.lmfa.ec-lyon.fr/ISAIF/Dat...AIF8-00105.pdf

There are a good data about geometry and results so i decided to conduct simulation in SRFSimpleFoam.

what i have for 30 rad/sec and Re=15800 (3m/s at inlet)

The coincidence is pretty good but not perfect. Data for 60 rad/sec is coming soon.

salomeToOpenFOAM mesh conversion

Posted March 14, 2014 at 06:36 by skeptik (CFD notes)

I met one big problem when i have converted SALOME mesh by UNV format and ideasToFoam utility.

It was not usual mesh, it contained pyramids. See fig.

I spent a lot time to achieve the same result like i can using ICEM. Only when i've found salomeToOpenFOAM script i successfully converted my mesh.

So i recommend it. The script is very helpful.
