OpenFOAM Installation for Multiple Users

Posted March 9, 2013 at 08:26 by Hisham (Notes for OpenFOAM!)
Updated March 10, 2013 at 10:47 by Hisham

If OpenFOAM was installed on a single user account using the OpenCFD binaries then for another user to have access to it is very simple. All one needs to do is to add an alias of the installation in the new user's .bashrc file

Code:
OFver='source /opt/openfoamver/etc/bashrc'
If, on the other hand, OpenFOAM (or OpenFOAM-ext) was compiled on a user account (say the user name is MrX) and a new user (MrY) wants to use the same installation, then:

1. MrX must make sure...

Hey, Dude, be careful with liftDir/dragDir in controlDict

Posted February 19, 2013 at 04:41 by skeptik (CFD notes)

When U is changed due to angle of attack you should change controlDict in libForces section.

So, what can you get when you have proper controlDict

U=56.4, Re=1.6e6

OpenFOAM with ICC - Intel's ICC is "allergic" to AMD CPUs

This is yet another one of my "rants on my blog" I do once in a while.

So today I was trying to reproduce this report: http://www.openfoam.org/mantisbt/view.php?id=590 - I was curious about this, because ICC is known for having great optimization on Intel processors (or at least it had in the past), as well as being completely free for non-commercial use on Linux.

The detail here is that I don't have an Intel CPU on my home computer. I've got an AMD 1055T x6 ...

Set (Initial) Internal Fields Using #codeStream

Posted April 23, 2012 at 13:55 by Hisham (Notes for OpenFOAM!)

To set up (initial) internal fields of variables according to an expression, one can use the #codeStream feature as:
Code:
internalField  #codeStream
{
    code
    #{
        const IOdictionary& d = static_cast<const IOdictionary&>(dict);
        const fvMesh& mesh = refCast<const fvMesh>(d.db());
        scalarField fld(mesh.nCells(), 12.34);// uniform value of the field as 12.34 or just fld(mesh.nCells())
...

libOpenSMOKE - Making it work once again with OpenFOAM

Posted April 14, 2012 at 05:43 by wyldckat
Updated April 21, 2012 at 08:33 by wyldckat (updated current status)

The other day Tobi asked for my help on building http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...opensmoke.html
After looking at the code and doing some trial and error, basing myself also on Tobi's already collected information, I managed to get it built/working with OpenFOAM 1.7.x, 2.0.x and 2.1.x.

And since the original page only provided a rarball (on Linux?) of the source code, I decided to use my github account to harbor the original code along...
