In a Methodology of STAR-CD it is written, that there are moderately porous media and highly porous media. I solve a flow through a fixed layer of quartz particles. Diameter of grains is 200 microns. What type is this layer (moderate or high)? Thank you.

Leon.

Leon,

It depends on 1) the magnitudes of your Alphas and Betas, 2) Density, 3) Porous layer thickness, and 4) Your velocity.

You may want to check Bjorn's posting on Tue, Jan 23rd. He is looking at an equation that is on page 8-6 of the methodology manual v3.10 and is a "User Check". Plug in your values to see if they are >> 1 and then you will know if it is "moderate or high". Hope this helps.
