Read Star-CD V2.2 in V3.10
 

Hi all cfd friends,

I am a begineer of Star-CD who want to convert some old star-CD files (version 2.2 in IRIX 5.3 platform) into Gambit v2 then solve using Fluent package (version 6.0.12 in window platform). I have these following tools, fluent 6.0.12 window version, Gambit 2 window version, start-CD 3.10 IRIX version and MSC.Patran 2001.

What I attempt to do are: 1)read the Star-CD v2.2 files using Star-CD v3.10 package with proStar 2)try to convert geometry into readable format in Gambit 3)regenerate the mesh in Gambit and save in Fluent format. 4)Solve with Fluent.

What the problem I have faced is Star-CD v2.2 files have no file extension and Star-CD v3.10 files have extension. Do you think my method is acceptable? Can you show me how to read old star-CD v2.2 files in star-CD v3.10?

try renaming file 16 with a .mdl extension. For example, rename star16 to star.mdl and then try opening it in prostar.

You can try using the CDSAVE command. It saves your model data as commands in a text-file format. You should get the following files: xyz.inp, xyz.vrt, xyz.cel, xyz.bnd. Just read in the .inp file in the newer ProSTAR.
