Porous media pressure drop coefficient
Hi!
How do you calculate the pressure drop coefficient for porous media. I was trying to model tube bank in a recirculation zone as porous media. I tried using standard correlations for friction factor for flow across tube banks, but the results seem physically unrealistic. Prabodh |
Re: Porous media pressure drop coefficient
Take a look to the methodology guide concerning the modeling of porous media. There are also a few examples there on how to calculate the porous media coefficients. Remember also that the coefficients to be calculated (alpha and beta) must give you a pressure drop *per unit length*.

Re: Porous media pressure drop coefficient
I tried calculating the beta value from friction factor for flow across tube banks, based on the average reynolds no. But the results are not very encouraging ( in fact they seem physically unrealistic).

Re: Porous media pressure drop coefficient
Hii Can you send me detail about your problem, I had done a tube bundle analysis using porous media. May be i can suggest you something.

Re: Porous media pressure drop coefficient
Thanks Anil. I was doing a flow model study of 66MW boiler. The area of concern lies just downstream a bend. The flow without any tube bundle has a recirculation zone at the bottom half of the bend. I want to analyze the flow in the real situation when tube bundles are peresent in the recirculation zone. I have got some results from actual field test but these have been taken on a very coarse grid. When I model the tuble bundles as porous media, I get a very skewed flow with maximum at the top tapering very rapidly and then gradually rising at the bottom. Hope this helps. If you want I can mail you the outline of my domain along with come of the results.

Heat Transfer in porous media
Dear anil
I want to analyze the porous media considering the conduction mode by using star-cd.actually i have to analyze for metal hydride beds and some annular sections.is it possible to do in star-cd.i am new to star-cd area.i saw ur mail in star-cd forum,u only done on this porous media.please reply me in this regard. thank u.
