Hi all,
I have just started using PRO HPC. The thing is, I have checked both MPICH-1.2.4 and MPICH-1.2.5.2. And wI set my MPI_ROOT=/usr/star/v3150/MPICH/1.2.4 MPI_ARCH=linux-2.4....(some long name) MPI_DEVICE=ch_shmem When I run prohpc it complains that /usr/star/v3150/MPICH/1.2.4/lib/linux-2.4.../ch_shmem/mpirun does not exist. I have copied the mpirun and libmpi.a to the above space and then it complains about some other files... I have tried so many thing both with version 1.2.4 and with 1.2.5.2, but no result... In versin 1.2.5.2 i could'nt even find the file libmpi.a... Please, please please, help... I am really struggling here... |

This problem sounds familiar to me. I had also a lot of trouble with the installation of the mpich libaries. For some reason the installation package doesn't work with redhat linux 9.0. The only way for me to got the whole thing working was to use the precompiled libaries from CD-Adapco. I would strongly recommend to ask them if they can provide you with it.

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion. I've downloaded MPICH-1.1.0 (which is the version provided by STAR) and now the above problem is gone but then when I try to run a problem it coplains about not finding the executables... On the window it gives warning about some unreferenced values or variables in the following path $STARDIR/solve/mpp/... I really dont know what can I do about that... Help, please... |

I'am not sure if you got me right. The whole thing works only if no compilation is done during installation. This means you have to copy the precompiled libaries (compiled at CD) into a folder and the variables must be set. You can't download version 1.1 from the mpich homepage because they are not compiled. For some reason the compilation doesn't work on your local plattform (In 99 percent of the cases the horrible absoft fortran compiler is the reason for mistakes). So once again ask Adapco support if they can send you the libaries by email. If something is not found during hpc compilations, check your pathes for the nodes and the path for the working directory. They should be different.

1) Please use the ch_p4 model for the parallel communication. If you run STAR-CD on a Linux cluster, it is then a distributed machine model, not a shared memory. Using the ch_shmem (where sh_mem stands for shared memory) device does not make sense... If you run on a dual processor machine, the ch_p4 device will give you a as good performance as with ch_shmem (I have run benchmarks using both). 2) If you have installed the precompiled libraries provided by your support office, you are on the safe side. 3) Check you environment settings as F.K. suggests. This is the most common cause of troubles.
