StarCCM+ polyhedra cell generation

Hello Everyone,

I know it is again a stupid question, but: how can I CREATE any mesh in starccm+ ? it seems that I have only the possibility of importing of an .ngeom file. But it is not what I would like to do, I would like to prepare everything from A to Z in starccm+ (and also try to generate this famous polyhedral mesh...)

Could you help me, please? is there any other 'subtool' I should run?

Thanks

well, i am not using starccm+ so far, but what i have seen from demo is that you cannot create a mesh in starccm+. you have to create a mesh with prostar or whatever and import it into starccm+

to find out what is the best way to import other meshes you should contact cd-support.

If you want to create a polyhedral mesh, the best place to do it is in the version of STAR-Design that is tuned to STAR-CCM+.

But stardesign is not able to read iges-format or prosurf format. So it is not very useful in the moment. Are there any plans?

I played a bit with ccm+ and think that the concept that different cell types become different regions in ccm+ which have to be coupled is not very nice. If you have an engine cooling and a different cell type for every hole in the gasket you will get mad if you try to run it in ccm+ ;-)

Yes - eventually the full suite of meshing tools will all support star-ccm+ including the polyhedra generator. As to the 2nd comment, its not fair to expect that star-ccm+ will work exactly like star-cd has in the past. It will have different capabilities and will require somewhat different forms of input. That's not to say that the process whereby it interacts with older models is fixed in stone either. That is also open for review.

I am also interested to know if users have been succesfull and happy with generating a polyhedral mesh.

Haven't found a tool that can do it yet, so no, not very successful. Nor happy.

IT will be in the new version of the StarCCM+ (or without +, not sure) they will release it soon (it was said on the user meeting in Paris), probably this is the reason of the countdown on the adapco webpage.

This new 'thing' will be a merriage of comet, stardesign and CCM solver (if my information is correct...)

You are right. I learned that everything should be released in January. There, you'll get Comet and Star together, and a new StarDesign. In it, you'll be able to generate Polyhedral meshes and run them. At the minute, it is possible to generate it in Comet Design. But with a special license. And you need to learn some tricks. I am glad to read that I am not the only one to be unhappy about it. Since I was hoping so much of this polyhedral mesh ( I mean, get rid of proAm...)

What did you think of the user conference in Paris?

I was not in Paris (London meeting was enough). This time I sent my boss there ;-). and he liked it.
