Default Polyhedral meshes in STAR-design

Dear all,

As the adapco website claims that star-design can generate polyhedral meshes, however, I found the version 3.20 of star-design ( sharing the license file as star-cd v3.24)doesn't include the polyhedral meshes in the volume mesh type.

Does anyone know which version of STAR-design include the ability to generate polyhedral meshes?

As STAR-design v3.20 only include two turbulence models, I maybe want to use other turbulence models. Can I export the finished meshes from STAR-design to STAR-CD? If possible, how can do it?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,

Lee

I cant answer the polyhedral mesh question, because its something I have been wondering too.

Exporting the STAR-Design mesh to Star-CD is pretty easy though. Once the mesh is generated, go to Solver/Preporcessing. Once thats done, go to Solver/Launch Star GUI (I think thats what its called) and this will launch star.

There were some problems with running the model though - STAR-Design creates a number of different fluid elements and shells. Go to the boundary regionmenu on the GUI and scroll down until you see the additional wall boundaries. These gave me errors, so I deleted them.

I made the fluid one element by using

cset news fluid ctyp,1 $cmod,cset

which makes all the fluid type 1.

Hope this helps.

To use polyhedral meshes in STAR-Design you need the latest version (4.00.004) which uses STAR-CCM+ as a solver (Polyhedra are not yet supported in STAR-CD). Please contact your Account Manager for this version.

Further to this if you know the command line inputs to select the models you want you can just enter them into an additional input file which is read in the soler pre-processing stage.
