Hi, I have starccm+ and starcd 3.24 both installed. When I launched the solver in StarDesign, I only get "Launch StarCCM+ GUI", How do I launch Prostar GuI from StaRDesign ? If not possible, then how do I export the mesh from StarDesign to ProStar/StarCD ? Thank You.

I think that this is no possible in 1.04 version.

The STAR-Design inside STAR-CCM+ install disc is just for STAR-CCM+ use only.

This version main to generate polyhedral mesh.

And it seems no way to transfer mesh from STAR-Design to pro-STAR.

I think that when pro-STAR 4.0 release it will possible.

star-design will create data base file, which can be opened in proam -> STAR-CD.

It depends on which stardesign you use. The version which comes with v326 (also 324) uses Starcd and the version which comes with the box-set uses ccm+.

hi ingear,

there is no problem with transfering model from stardesign to prostar/proam. it works like that:

create your geometry and mesh using stardesign; go for a file manager/ command line and find your working directory; there should be a tmp_stardesign directory; there you can find .dbs that can be used within proam

or create the geometry and mesh using stardesign and run simulation within it (you do not have to provide any details for it, ie. no boundary conditions, no media properties,...); abort the simulation; go for a file manager/command line; find the already mentioned directory tmp_stardesign and change to that one; there should be a directory star which contains all the files suitable for prostar.

hope you'll find it useful

Hi Ethan,

Are you using Windows or Unix? The versions of STAR-Design in current use are:- 4.00.004, which was released with the "box set" version of STAR-CCM+, and 3.20.07, which has been released with STAR-CD since 3.22. You can check which version you have in the "Help About" box under the Help menu. Version 4.00.004 will allow you to launch the STAR-CCM+ GUI, while version 3.20.07 will allow you to launch the pro-STAR GUI. If you are using 3.20.07, there should be no difficulty in transferring the mesh to STAR-CD: just create your mesh, run the Solver Pre-Processing, and select "Launch pro-STAR GUI". This will ask you to save before proceeding, and when you look in the saved session directory, you will see the .dbs file and a .ngeom file, both of which contain the mesh.
