hi chiang

If you want to get a heat release, NEVER use STAR-CD

because you can not get it from *.pst file

Only you can get it using posdat.f subroutine

but you may experience complex problems in your coding

actually, I don't understant why there are not heat release in POST FILE of STAR-CD.

I was getting nervous due to heat release in 2004.

However, STAR-CD don't still accept opinion of USERS. :<

I recommand Fluent or CFD-ACD...

???

if you calculate species, get a heat release(combustion), and then directly take contour on total computation domain, it is difficult due to only using subroutine (below 3.26) I dont know in above v3.25.

good luck

1. using post data when only using EBU, you can trace reversly to reaction rate to need to refer STAR-Cd methodolgy.

it is possible to get a reaction rate though process is complex :<

you get reaction rate using "oper" command, save reaction rate using "ofile" command, and then sort it through your fortran sorting code.

using EXCEL(MicroSoft), reaction rate * enthalpy(global reaction)=heat release rate

acutually, it's hard to explain only words, only you must look at the methology and then you can see this method.

2. using subroutine

you can use subroutine. I have been heard STAR-CD company send the sample source of posdat.f to customer.

you can contact cd-adapco. sorry...

I recommand Fluent if you want to get a heat release from combustion or chemistry calculation. I already comfirmed Fluent can do it.

good luck. I'm go to bed ..Zzzzzzz

Dear chiang,

For your information the Heat Release rate values for every crank angle is available in case_name.spd file written by STAR-CD after the combustion analysis. This file is available from 3.0 versions on STAR-CD but HRR values available only from 3.22 and advanced versions of STAR-CD.For further details refer user guide chapter 13 and page 9 under the topic Engine Combustion Data Files.
