.pstt file

Is there a limit to the size of the .pstt file?

I am running a transient simulation (LES) for 43 seconds with a time-step of 0.01 (4300 time-steps) and attempting to record the results at every time-step from 23 seconds onwards in order that I can perform a time-average of this data. My simulation got to time-step 3889 when our cluster went down. I tried to view the results up to that point and there was only results for 70 time-steps (2300-2369) when really I was expecting results for 1590 time-steps (2300-3889). Why have the remaining 1520 time-steps not been saved? Is there a limit to the size of the .pstt file? Does this mean that I have to spit up my simulation into smaller parts? Is there no other way around this such as increasing the size of the .pstt file?

By the way this is a large mesh just under 4 million nodes.

Cheers

Andy

Re: .pstt file

So how big is the pstt file with the 70 time steps?

I very much doubt that you will be able to save all the time-steps you want into a single file. It is better to run some time steps stop it and rename the pstt file according the time steps in it "file.pstt_2300_2350" . Then do a restart for the next XX time steps.

Re: .pstt file

as far as i know, there is no limit for the .pstt file except the disk size.moreover it might be painful to handle the post processing of large .pstt files so as william suggested it might be better to save the transient files for specified periods, i do like that. By the way i am doing les calculations for a simple geometry, but i could not export the time dependent solution from .pstt file. do you use starcd for the time averaging? and do you know how to export the transient data as an asci file for time averaging ? thanks..

Re: .pstt file

The .pstt file was limited to 2Gb on older versions of STAR and on Windows machines. If you are using 3.2 and/or not Windows then its not limited.

Re: .pstt file

But with 4 mio cells and so many time steps you are very likely to hit the size of any harddisk.

Re: .pstt file

from my experience, *.pstt file is limited 6.7Gb or nearly 7Gb in STAR v3.20 under linux machine. however, in my opinion, it is not good that each file is over 10Gb. anyway you can merge pstt files which is 6.7Gb through following commands. Good luck!

trload,,nomvgr,4,c

report-1/star.pstt

report-2/star.pstt

report-3/star.pstt

report-4/star.pstt

Re: .pstt file

file size is unlimited, but it seems like to depends on iteration number

previeous message is my mistake.
