STAR-CD OR COMET
 

I can not understand what star-cd is. If I get let say star-cd will I need other cad application to design product? If I have other cad product let say SolidWorks will star-cd be integrated in SW so when I finish with modeling just go to kind of icon in SW and it gives me Star-cd GUI when I can work? If I change something in model will it automatically update cfd geometry-how does integration works? Please be detail I can not figure out it because I never had star-cd.

Comet-is it part of star-cd that is used to solve CFD analysis or star-cd using it own?

Please be detail to be able to have complete picture of STAR_CD.

Comet is not supported anymore.

Depending on you application you can use star-cd or star-ccm+.

Still question: If I have Star-SD and SW, Can I do modeling in SW and on click go to star-GUI and do analyses?

To go to Star-CD "on click" from SW you will need at least Star-Works and "bridge" to access your Star-Works model from "usual" (i.e. standalone) Star-CD. May be this link will help: http://www.cd-adapco.com/products/ST...ies/index.html

Thanks, that is what I wanted as an answer. So I will have to import model in Star-CD and then do simulation. Is it hard to set up boundaries in star-cd? I am asking this because it is hard to find this information on web instead of Ansys CFX which is possible to see how it works in practice...

If you get STAR-Works you never have to leave the solidworks environment, you can do boundary application, simulation setup, meshing and running all in the SW environment, if you want to handle more complex physics you can get the gateway package which includes a license for either STAR-CD or STAR-CCM+ which you can then launch your model into to add in the complexity. Personally if the new version of STAR-CCM+ (V2) can handle the physics you want then I would go for that every time without thinking as it is easier to learn and use than pro-STAR and has a lot off cool stuff in it (its only 2 years old so has been written with a "modern" way of thinking)

No, you don't have to import your model. I've just wrote what you need to import :) But you can do most things directly in StarWorks, though not all the physics will be available to you there
