Average velocity over a section of cells

I wanted to know if there is a quick way to find the average velocity of flow at a predefined section in a fluid flow. For example if we are interested in characterizing the flow from a hole or outlet we need the value of the average velocity over some cells. Can that be done without going in detail to the output file to figure the velocity at each face of the cells?

Thanks

I think that you can use "Monitor Cell behavior" funtion in the output control panel.

And the *.ecd will report the value in each step.

Another way is to select those cells and load the post file and use summerize cset command

cset subs zone load, filename oper,getc,vmag,4 summerize cset

The other option is to create a section then use pscreat to generate shells representing the section then map the solution to the section and average in the same way that db suggested. This means you can get a true plane at a specific location, if you are using an unstructured grid the cell centers can vary a bit.
