Default Error with pstt-file, need help!

I started a simulation with 1200 time steps for a rotation of 360 degree. Data is written every 6 degree. Unfortunately I missed to split the simulation into several pstt-files. Though, the file has now about 2,3 GB and will have ~2,7 GB in the end. I tried to open it but the error message "Failed opening file" "Could not open specified file" appeared... I also tried to split the file (tools -- convert -- star)..same story here.

Is the file worthless and all data lost or is there any way to post-process it?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Phil

No, the file is not worthless. Go to Tools > Convert > Star. When you open the GUI you then click on Transient. You then select binary for both input and output file type, put in your input file name, select an output file name and select initial time step and final time step and click apply. Make sure you copy your original output file to another name so if I gave you bad instructions you will not loose everything.

I have used this method several times when I misjudged how large the output file would be and it got over 2 gig. For some reason, star won't open a file > 2 gig.

Good luck.

Thanks! Tried it, but it didn't work. MSG:

tsta,bina,turbine_10.pstt,bina,test_10.pstt,1,10,1 ,n READ BINARY TRANSIENT FILE turbine_10.pstt AND WRITE IEEE BINARY TO test_10.pstt **ERROR - READING TRANSIENT FILE **ERROR - READING FILE turbine_10.pstt

**ERROR - TRANSIENT CONVERT UNSUCCESSFUL

I have no idea, anything else I can do? Sorry to bother you again...

try using the readpst app in $STAR/bin, you can chop your pstt file up into little bits, this should help if you are running out of memory. I can't remember the syntax off the top of my head though...

Thanks. But I couldn't find a "readpst" app, only a splitpst.bat, which didn't work.

The convert/star/ normally works with smaller files.

The simulation ended and the file has now 2,8 GB. My knowledge about Star-CD and CFD is quite limited. Any other idea or a detailed description what I can do?

I have to present my results on Tuesday, so I am a bit under pressure...

Thank you for anything!

Phil

Then you have no chance, windows can't access the kind of memory needed to read such a big pstt, try linux if you can.

... preferably a 64-bit flavour too. Or an HP.
