star-ccm+ and passive scalars
 

Hi all,

I would like to use star ccm+ for modelling pollutant dispersion. However, I have noticed that it has only the capability of adding 1 passive scalar to a simulation.

What if someone needs to model the dispersion of more than one pollutant, or needs to include another passive scalar for age of air calculation etc.?

Has anyone overcome this problem, or do I need to consider a different CFD package?

I thought of this solution given the limitations.

1/ Run the case setup with the polutant passive scalar to convergence and post process. I suggest to also save the model.

2/ Freeze all quantities in the solver except the passive scalar and set up for the Mean Age Calulation (Field function etc, remove BCs from pollutant).

3/Continue iterating solving just for the passive scalar until convergence.

4/Post process for the Mean Age.

I seems to work on my test case. What do you think?

You still have the possibility to use the classical Star-CD, which is even better when dealing with transient calculations.

That sounds like the best that can be done. I presume the developers will add the capability to model more than one passive scalar in the future.
