I try to initialize star-cd and noticed that in hardware.ini file there are references to opt/fortran/, opt/absoft, etc. I check my folder but opt is empty, and star doesn't work. I need to install this compiler separately or i've a problem with installation?

Yes. You purchase and install the compiler separately.

And when i've installed it will star-cd work? Because i've looked at the configuration files and it seems to be properly setted, but I receive the error "star it's not properly initializated on host etc.."

Sounds like your shell is not configured.

Try "source /opt/star/etc/setstar" where you will need to replace /opt/star with the path to your StarCD installation.

You can test your shell configuration with "echo $STARDIR". If it doesn't report the path to your StarCD installation, you need to source the setstar script.

well, the command echo $STARDIR gives the correct installation directory, but i've noticed that setstar gives me only STARDIR, STARINI, CDLMD_LICENSE_FILE, LM_LICENSE_FILE and STARNET. But on the installation manual there are also ABSOFT: /opt/absoft LAMHOME: $STARDIR/LAM/7.0/linux_2.4-gcc_2.95.3-glibc_2.2.2-dso PROSTAR: $STARDIR/PROSTAR/4.02.003/linux_2.2-x86 RUNTIME: $STARDIR/RUNTIME/1.3.4/linux_2.4-x86 STAR: $STARDIR/STAR/4.02.003/linux_2.4-absoft_9.0a-glibc_2.2.2-dso STARLAUNCH: $STARDIR/STARLAUNCH/2.01.02/linux_2.2-x86 STARNET: $STARDIR/STARNET/3.00.011/generic

they don't appear in my terminal.Am I missing something?

I'm not sure how to interpret that one. When I source the setstar script, I get all those echoed to the screen. The values are set inside $STARDIR/etc/software.ini. You can check there.

Maybe your installation is corrupted? Can you run any application from the StarCD installation? The PROSTAR GUI, prosurf, etc.?

If you do have all the variables initialized, then check that they are pointing at the proper locations. I've had such a problem once, when I was trying to start a 64-bit Star-CD at 32-bit Linux

Ok now prostar and other applications run (Pauli were right, corrupted installation). Star doesn't run and i've the same error: i installed Intel fortran compiler in /opt/intel/fc/10.1.015 and set this path in hardware.ini but it doesn't work. Any suggestion? Thanks for your help
