Hi guys, I am trying to mesh this geometry i made in NX 9.0 of a vortex generator in ICEM CFD . Issue arising is low quality mesh . I actually dont know how to mesh this geometry properly or if the geometry is correct itself. Any help regarding this would be highly appreciated
TIA. |

Hi there,
if you know the equation for the "domain outline" then the following approach should work: i) Mathematica (for example) for generation of edge vertices ii) OpenFOAM'S mesher blockMesh to generate a clean and well-conditioned hex-mesh based on the vertices provided from i). Good luck |

Hi, So i managed to get some work done and here are the details , i did it in workbench > fluid flow (fluent)
Model is : A simple solid triangle kept at 15° to inlet . I need to investigate flow over it. 1.Modelled CAD geometry in Designmodeler , created enclosure and subtracted the specimen . 2.meshed with medium density ( no parameters changed ) 3. inlet velocity at 22.22m/s , k-e equation . standard init. and rest all parameters were default Then i got this scaled residual graph, can someone say what does this graph denote ? |

Give more importance to the y+ paramater and the dynamic mesh

Dear RohIIT,
You are making mesh on the vortex generator itself. You should make enclosure around the vortex generator and then try to mesh fluid domain. Regards, Er. Max |

Yes i later understood that and did simulation runs . Fluid domain is roughly 15X dimensions of the model of VG. Still i dont know if the results obtained are correct or not, also i dont get convergence due to absence of finer mesh. |

Guys, In fluent , how can i find boundary layer thickness , its a vortex generator placed over a flat plate .
Also i have obtained convergence , so how can i find circulation i.e vortex strength around the VG ? |
