hello

i have a very strange analysis for me ... i have to calculate a wind turbine to find the torque and the rotation speed due to the air vellocity...

my firs think was to make a 1 way fsi to see the flow first and then just make a structural analysis to find the torgue...

can anyone tell me how to find the velocity and also any othen idea how to start??????

thanks in advance hayate

This sounds like: If you car is going up hill and is consuming 10 liters per 100 Km, what's the car's speed and what's the slope of the hill?

As far as I know, in wind turbines (the kind used to produce electricity) the torque is automatically adjusted so that the rotation speed is constant.

hmmm i did not unterstand... you tell me that the rotation speed of the generator in the same??? ok i believe so but how do you think i should simulate this wind turbine??? shall i simulate 3 steps (of several wind speed ) and see the torque ?? how can i see the speed that the wind impeller will have due to the air velocity????

thanks

In response to Rui's sugestion that speed is maintained constant.. I am afraid no. Generally, its a variable speed generator & the frequency of electrical generation is maintained by a electric convertor before putting it to Grid.

Hayate, your choice looks reasonable to me. Only thing, once you start rotating, angle of attack (spanwise) also changes.

hello

what is the angle of attack and also can you tell me how to make a rotational moving mesh???????? how to aply the axis???

best regards

I am currently working on same type of analysis. so I did transient analysis, gave the rotor specific rpm as well as air velocity onto stator. in cfx post value of torque on blade varies according to the shape of the blade. so using that value I can decide the better shape of blade as well as the blade angle.

But I am still working on a better method. so anybody here is welcome to correct me or suggest any better strategy.

thank you.

I think this way is the right way to get better perfomance of your blade, but you will spend long time to get results. If you use Blade Element Modeler technique you will get your results more quickly. I had a experience using Qblade to this kind of analysis and i got good results with it.

yes strobe, its a bit time consuming, but I am not familiar with "blade modeller technique" that u suggested. can u tell me any source to read n get info about it?? n thanx for your suggestions.

You cand develop your own algorithm or use some softwares as Qblade (http://qblade.de.to/).
