Simulate accumulation of dust in a fixed bed filter

Hello everybody, I want to simulate the accumulation of dust in a fixed bed filter. The filter itself is set up as porous medium. I have air as continuous fluid and for dust I use particle tracking. Now I want the particles (or some of them) to accumulate on the porous medium. But I didn´t find a way to set up conditions to make the particles “stick” within the porous medium. I read in another post that a fortran sub routine is needed to solve this problem. But as I´m new in CFX I am searching for an easier way without using fortran. I very appreciate your help thanks |

First of all - are you using an appropriate multiphase model? Is this model more easily done as a Eularian multiphase model? The removing dust in the filter is easy (just use a source term).
Assuming you want to use a Lagrangian particle model - have you looked at particle mass source terms? |

Thanks for your answer ghorroks,
as I wan´t so simulate particles with different sizes I use the particle transport model. Sorry but what is a source term? Do you mean the defaults that I can select in CFX-Pre or is it a kind of fortran subroutine? I was searching in the help-funktion of CFX but I am still not sure about it. |

Eularian models can also handle different sized particles. A simple way of doing it is to have multiple Eularian phase with different sizes in each, but more sophisticated ways of doing it are available including things like MUSIG.
I will refer you to a CFD text book for an explanation of source terms. |
