Hello everyone,
I'm new with ANSYS-CFX and I am trying to figure out how to include in my CFD model the external radiation of the sun. The system which I am studying is a Solar Updraft Tower. I couldn't find any tutorial appropriate for this issue. Thanks in advance, Nikola |

Have a look at the tutorial example "Air Conditioning Simulation". Also ANSYS support has some examples of solar heating so ask them as well.

The version installed in the university does not support Fluent Solar Load Model. Is there another way to include solar radiation? Thank you in advance!

This is the CFX forum. If you are using Fluent then you are on the wrong forum.

Yes you are right, sorry. Is there another way to include solar radiation in ansys cfx?

Yes, CFX has some tutorials on air conditioning which include solar loads. It can be implemented as either heat sources directly on the surfaces, or as radiative boundaries.

Hi,
I have a related question. I hope you don't mind me digging out this thread instead of opening a new one altogether. I am trying to figure out a way to specify a radiative load on interfaces. That is, for a given geometry I have a fortran code computing the brutto incoming fluxes on all relevant surfaces resulting from a specific mirror configuration redirecting sunlight. No reemission, no reflection included so far. I'd have the CFX radiation model figure this part out, but it seems impossible to define radiation sources at interfaces that are pointed towards the interface. I tried to impose such a brutto incoming flux profile on a horizontal plate and got an unphysical solution. Applying the same profile as an outgoing one on a wall above the plate such that the plate is subject to the same incident radiative flux gave completely different (and somewhat more reasonable) results. However, I cannot proceed that way for all surfaces because the geometry doesn't always allow it. So I am looking for a way to impose those flux profiles on interfaces and walls such that they are incoming, i.e. pointing towards the wall and starting Discrete Transfer/Monte Carlo from there, is it possible? Another fix for my problem would be the ability to define a radiative source somewhere in space (not at a wall) even though I am already pretty positive that's not possible. However, please let me know in case I am wrong. Thanks in advance and all the best, Max |
