CFX output for ParaView

Hi,

I need to use either ParaView or VisIt post-processors packages rather than CFD-Post for a particular task.

Having looked through both of these packages there is not a native CFX input, unlike Fluent, that I can find. What is the recommended way of getting CFX results in ParaView and VisIt?

Thanks.

I have found that exporting the results to ensight format using the solver manager works for my needs. Open the solver manager stand alone, and then tools -> export results then just select your .res file and select output format as ensight. Paraview should have no problem loading the resulting files.

Thanks,

I see that there are some options in the CFX-Solver Manager in the Ensight export: Ensight version 5, 6 or Gold and Format Binary or ASCII. Does it matter which are selected?

I normally go with Gold (dont remember why :)) and binary (to reduce file size).

Regading Ensight format

Dear All,

I am working with Paraview. I have done my simulations using Ansys CFX and exported to Paraview readable format (EnSight). It has created *.case file with some more files.

I would like to know more details about all files expecially *.GEOM file.

Can you please help me to understand in details.

Thanks and Regards

What do you want to know about it? A google search on ensight file format will bring up thousands of hits, Im sure some of them are useful for you.

I am using the CFX solver to output a file that can be read by Paraview. However the file only contains a few solver variables like velocity, pressure. I can view many many more in CFD post (for example the wall shear stress). Is there any way to export these variables to paraview?

For ensight format:
set Results options/output level to 3
that will output ALL variables in the res file. There is no way (that I know of at least) to specify just a few variables.

Thank you very much that definitely added the variables according to the CFX output prompt. However they don't seem to automatically appear in the paraview point arrays / cell arrays list where all the other variables are. I was hoping they would just load when I open the EnSight case file?

EDIT:

It seems CFX outputs two case files now one with the "level3" variables and the one I had before. Choosing the level 3 case file works perfectly. Thanks again for the help.
