Hi everybody.

Does anyone tried a simulation in CFX to represent the efect of adding a chemical demulsifier to desestabilize a water in oil emulsion? How did go?

Any information would be very helpful.

Thanks!

What particular part of the effect do you want to model? You can model this at many different levels.

Thanks so much for the answer.

I need to represent the effect of add a surfactant agente (demulsifier) in the water in oil (W/O) emulsion. In the theory the demulsifier displaces the surfactant contained by crude oil around the water droplet, that leads to a water droplets coalescence and a subsequent separation of the water.

This phenomenon does not implies chemical reaction, it's a physical separation.

Could CFX represent this phenomenon somehow? How could do it?

PD: Here is a brief explanation of the phenomenon (http://petrowiki.org/Oil_demulsification)

CFX does not have a built in demulsification model to my knowledge, but you might be able to adapt existing models or develop a new one (using CEL, additional variables and whatever else is required).

You can model the chemicals as multi-component mixtures, and the different phases as a multi phase model. As long as you know all the mechanisms taking place you have a chance of modelling it.
