serial or partition in CFX

Hello everyone
Iam modeling free surface, my computer (corei7, 16 Gb ram) I don't know it is better to use serial or local parallel, if parallel the number of partitions equal to 8?
thanks

What is your goal ? what is your plan to achieve it ?

First, have you already done the free surface tutorial ? Have you realized your specific model, and obtained meaningful solutions for the initial runs ? If you already have a working setup, you can do parallel runs just to reduce the wait time to analyze your results. Otherwise, you will be getting faster to a useless set of results if any at all.

On what number of cores to use: first find out how many "true/real cores" your machines has, not the ones when hyper-threading is active. Then, you can use any number of them; however, using all of the cores available may not be cost-efficient, and you are better off using 80% of them or less.

Hope the above helps,

thanks for reply
yes of course, I did a lot of model in free surface, but using serial, I know using parallel can reduce computational time. actually I dont have licence for disturbed parallel, only I can use local parallel. before i used (number of partition = number of Ram) It means 16. it works but slow. so I must put NO. of processor in partition ?
thanks

Maximum No. of Partitions = Number of Cores.

In practice, for better performance on PC based machines you should use less than the number of cores.
