Default Periodic boundaries in CFX-Meshbuild

Hi all,

I want to create a certain geometry with several periodic boundaries in the old software package CFX Meshbuild. According to the CFX-Community pages I have to define USER2D-patches with meaningfull names. Then I have to run CFX-Meshimport that will convert these patches into periodic or inter-block-boundaries. However, this procedure doesn't work: the conversion is not obtained. Does any one have experience with this procedure and would like to share some hints and tips?

Hi Gert-Jan.

The way I have solved multiple periodic boundaries, is to specify everything in the command file. It could be done quite easily like this:

>>CREATE PATCH

PATCH NAME 'P1'

BLOCK NAME 'XXX'

PATCH TYPE 'INTER BLOCK BOUNDARY'

LOW J
>>CREATE PATCH

PATCH NAME 'P2'

BLOCK NAME 'XXX'

PATCH TYPE 'INTER BLOCK BOUNDARY'

HIGH J
>>GLUE PATCHES

FIRST PATCH NAME 'P1'

SECOND PATCH NAME 'P2'

ORIENTATION CHANGE 'HIGH I' 'HIGH J' 'HIGH K'

Hi Gert-Jan,

You really have to be more specific about your problem, is it in cylindrical coordinates? , axi-symmetrical ?, etc. I would also help if you could be a more specific about where the conversion goes wrong, is there an error message or what?

If you are going to include radiation it is very difficult to include the periodic boundaries in the command file, except if you have a parallel version. I also believe that the solution with the user-2d patches is a hint for Build, I have not checked it. I know the solution for meshbuild, if your problem is in cylindrical coordinates and axi-symmetric. You should define the periodic boundaries as symmetry planes, run it through mesh-import. When you run the job you should include the object file axisymm.o, you can find it in the extras library. The symmetry planes in the circumferential direction is then treated as periodic boundaries. If this is not the clue for your problem then please be more specific.
