Streaklines

Hello,

I am having problems to use particle tracking. Does anyone know how to create/visualize streaklines in the CFX 5.5.1 ? Thank you

Hi, If you just want to follow a particle, you have to create a point at the location of the particle you want to follow and then create a streamline based on this point, you can do the same with a line or a plane. You have all informations in the CFX help and you can try the tutorial 3.

Thank you, but to the CFX streamline and streakline have the same meaning ? Streamline is diferent of streakline. Thank you again.

Hi Christian,

In steady state flow streamlines and streaklines are the same thing. In transient flow, streamlines are the path a massless particle would take if the flowfield of that instant in time is used, and streaklines are the path the massless particle would take if the flow field is allowed to change with time.

That's a physical description, you will probably find a more mathematical description in your textbook.

CFX 5.5 can do streamlines in steady state and transient flow, and CFX 5.6 will do particle tracking (with and without mass) in steady-state flows. I believe you will have to wait until CFX 5.7 for true streaklines!
